This is a reality for many sailboat owners, and with the high proportion of used sailboats flooding the market, it could be your reality as well.
The purchase of a sailboat is more affordable than ever, especially when you purchase a used sailboat at a good price. One reason for used sailboats are so affordable is that its current owners no longer want to pay for the maintenance or storage. Often their sailboat sell below market value, so it goes fast - this provides a value proposition for the buyer.
While it is exciting to see a sailboat listed with a low selling price, the buyer must be aware of potential problems. Some used boats are great value, but can be hidden in poor condition or damage. It's up to you to ask the seller necessary questions. If you are unsure about the process, they have a professional help in the inspection.
If you are a "fixer-upper" kinda guy/gal we have many such offers, as well. Some used sailboats for a fraction of their value are listed, simply because the interior is stripped, or there is a sail missing. If you are not positive about the value of a sailboat, seek the advice of an expert.
